Tengu

Tengu

This ride was a result of the Three Blind Mice II competition at coastersims, so I figured it'd make a good first upload here. Also, it's crazy and fun.

Tengu is a record-breaking Intamin pre-fab woodie.

The teams for the competition were randomly-assigned, and work was distributed like this:

Trackwork - Kevin Brennan

Supports - OrientExpressKid

Themeing - kenadax

I'd like to thank my teammates for putting up with my insane trackwork; the end product came out splendidly.

Enjoy your ride!

EDIT: Wow! Thanks for all of the feedback, guys. Most of you had some great insights, and your comments will be taken into consideration for future designs of this type. I probably won't post any more of my "old" stuff (well, maybe one more of my favorites sometime in the future), but you'll definitely see my next releases if I ever have time to complete them. There are still some un-rated creations on the exchange, so go rate a coaster other than this one!

First off, My son and I both loved this ride . We also really enjoyed the thought and detail that went into the path/entry/walkway to the ride.

T - Amazing track layout, especially for wood.

A - Although long, we stayed engaged and excited for all of it.

O - Haven't seen anything like it made from wood.

A great build and definitely a winner.

Just certain things I didn't like about the coaster, I know it is possible for woodies to have a loop, but it just doesn't seem right to me.

The tunnel inside the mountain/volcano didn't seem to fit with the rest of the scenery.

The sheer length of the coaster makes me have my doubts on the capacity and the realism of this coaster.

I liked it, but there are certain points that, in my opinion, didn't appeal to me.

Wow. This is nothing short of amazing. I'm wondering how this coaster has escaped being rated so far. Beautiful and realistic sense of atmosphere along with an exciting ride and great track work. Congratulations on this absolute piece of art.

T: I'm certainly no expert, but the tech work here seemed just about perfect to me. No pumping that I could detect along with great support work in a surprising and thrilling layout.

A: Fantastic. This ride definitely kept my heart rate up.

O: The layout itself struck me as quite original, but the theming, queue line pathways and bridges, station and 3ds were the best part.

Well done, and thanks for the ride!

Cool coaster!

T: Very smooth, no high g's. The support work was mostly pretty basic though for a wooden coaster.

A: The first part of this coaster was very thrilling, but after a while it got very repetitive. I think that when people put loops on wooden coaster it makes the ride not as realistic.

O: I liked the idea and you carried it out very well.

Good job!

I always get a little scared when I see a Woody with a loop because so many people end up ruining the coaster by doing so, but you incorporated it very well. The flow throughout the ride was very darn good... the only part, to me, that seemeda little slow was the 2nd hill going into the mountain seemed a tad slow, but this was no biggie, no deduction for that. IMO it begins with an El Toro feel, but then in the second half has that Grsvity Group feel, and I really like that. Your scenery work was well done, just enough to get the job done and not overdone or cluttered. This coaster definitely had good adrenaline, had good hidden aspects to it.... Overall, well done.

Wow! This was quite an intense ride. Not sure if I would be able to take that twice in a row. Overall, this is an amazing design.

T- I thought the track looked great and the ride was as smooth as an Intamin should be. The supports looked great for the most part, but some areas where the train was going 50+ miles per hour through a hairpin curves looked like they could have used some more supports.

A- The layout of this ride was spectacular, and I had no idea what to expect. Lots of adrenaline pumping twists and turns. At some points the trains felt like they were leaping over some of those camelbacks. Great speed and pacing throughout.

O- At first I really didn't like the theming, but it grew on me as the ride continued. The 3d's on this ride looked great as well.

T - My God, one of the best work I have ever seen in my life, it is a wooden extremely radical and very soft. Another thing, never seen a loop so smooth in my life.

A - Very radical, very good, and curves and falls rapidly even places steep, and theming support.

O - original Well, both the route as the scenery, Great choice of subject, matched perfectly with the coaster.

T: Absolutely fantastic! The theming was astounding and the layout was simply breathtaking! Lots of drops curves and airtime too! It was extremely smooth throughout the entire ride! One little thing though, you could've done a bit more terrain work around the coaster, but other than that it is amazing!

A: This thing double's the adrenaline on Texas Giant and El Toro mixed together!

O: I'm sure the idea may have been used before, but definetly not with all this theming and the extensively exciting layout!

Technical - very. very smooth and was free of any major pumps.

Adrenaline - As it is a very fast coaster and with a pretty twisted layout, it is pretty adrenaline filled.

Originality - The idea of going through a mountain was very original. And the loop is still semi - original.

T - Your coaster is very smooth the supports look sufficient.

A - Everything from the size of the massive drops to the super-fast loop screams adrenaline. Someone please build this ride in real life!

O - I like your take on the Intamin woody + a loop. They would be smart to take your suggestions to heart sir.

This roller coaster is one of the best I have ever seen built on No Limits! T: This coaster is super smooth. Next to no pumps anywhere on the track. A: If this was real, it would definitely be a top 5 woodie! The speed and pacing were almost perfect. Amazing job. O: This is a very unique layout. Of course every coaster has its influences. I will say that this layout is the most unique I have seen in a while. Overall, fantastic job! I can tell a LOT of work went into this coaster. Keep up the good work!

t: I don't have a problem with trains waiting on the lift... that sorta ramps up the anticipation!

a: great pacing, good flow

o: I'm not a fan of loops on woodies, but this one seemed to fit in with the design well

T: I like the idea with the break in the lifts to up capacity etc, but if the trains are too close then the two trains following the first one will either stop at the MCBR or Lift, the track work is ace though!

A: Packed with airtime, very face pasted and doesn't loose momentum.

O: I liked that the ride seemed mixed between the likes of El Toro, mixed with Renegade mixed with Balder/Megaphobia, plus Son Of Beast with the loop.

Technical - very. very smooth and was free of any major pumps.

Adrenaline - As it is a very fast coaster and with a pretty twisted layout, it is pretty adrenaline filled.

Originality - The idea of going through a mountain was very original. And the loop is still semi - original.

Overall - one of the best No Limits Coasters I've seen. Very smooth and very action packed.

Fast-paced, very exciting, and original for a coaster of its class. I quite enjoyed it. The only area it was lacking was in surroundings and scene objects, but for what tools come with the program (and the amount of work that appears to have been put into everything else), this is marvelous.

And we'll get to others... we just happen to be required to rate most everything we download in order to keep downloading.

Hey,

T: Yes it was smooth and it was free of major pumps or anyhing, but the supports were just horrific. I mean here was anything done here apart from mixing the cathedral and the steeple generated supports a bit.

A: It's a frickin high fast and intense woodie. So yeah it's pretty exciting.

O: Nothing to original here. The loop was nice, but that's nothing you haven't seen before. some textures on the objects were oversized, making it all look a bit toyish (is that even a word?). I did not like the colors...

I don't think I've ever seen a real wooden roller coaster with a loop in it before, but it did add a little bit of style to this coaster and I'd have to say I enjoyed it despite the parts that weren't very smooth.

I liked this coaster. Going through the mountain was pretty cool, and so was the whole theme. In the beginning, it had a lot of excitement, but after the mid-brake, it was losing adrenaline. Haven't seen the whole mountain thing before, so it was pretty original.

I like this, it's very good.

T: I thought I saw a couple of yellow g-forces in there, plus the mountain was a bit odd.

A: Very exciting, but after the mid-course brake run I got a little bored.

O: Overall, very original, don't think there are any woodies with loops in, and the whole tunnel through the mountain thing was cool.

Just about everything about this track was great. The only gripe I have about is that it is a wooden coaster. The elements it has taken at those speeds are feasible with a steel coaster, but a wooden coaster would be way to rough to be enjoyable. Ignoring that fact, I find little to mark you down on. The ride had great pacing beginning to end and the the adrenaline is nonstop!

One of my favorite coasters! The track layout is a work of art, so many overbanks and airtime!

Such a fast paced and bad @$$ layout, i loved it!

Great theme, love the block brake section with the asian influence!

T: This coaster had great transitions and was very smooth A: This coaster starts off super fast with alot of direction changes. I love the design! O: Very original! The love the mid coarse break run!

It was amazing, but it might have been to much

T: No major flaws found, although I think the speed and banking were a little extreme before the trim brakes. I would watch that for future coasters. The loop was an exellent addition to the ride, the height of it really added to the overall excitement.

A: Couldn't have gone wrong. I think this would be one of the few rides out there that never would get old, no matter how many times you ride. The first drop is killer, it would be the ride you get the butterflies in your stomach every time you ride.

O: Can't compare to anything else. In a way, it is like the Son of Beast with the loop, but that is just something that is so rare (nonexistant now) that you remember it.

Awesome job!

This ride was a great time. I would defenatly come back for more. The turn though the peak was slightly over banked, which isnt the best feature on a wooden coaster, if its in a tunnel or not. Also, a coaster of this size would be better off with steel. I also love how you kept the twisting and turning throught the whole ride, but didnt make it painful. Also the boost in the chain was very useful in ride time, but it should have speed up earlier in the lift. I like the placing of the loop in terms of the layout. Most people who make woodies with loops either put them too late, or too soon, or either just didnt make the right kind of coaster for a loop. It was a great ride, but the biggest thing for me was the supports. They would make this ride a killer as age gets higher. Good ride, overall.

Love this ride, it is very realistic and exciting. The speed tops at an impressive 77 mph, though it at no point is rough. All the transitions are smooth. Also, i love it when the coaster on the lift jumps to a second chain, which slowingly gets faster until it plummets you over the edge.

It would be hard seeing this in real life, since six-seater woodies are too rough for twisted layout. Maybe it could have been a trailed woodie train. But still, it was stuffed full of airtime and I think this is the best coaster at this site.

This coaster blew me away. as the train lost speed the coaster became more and more twisted to compromise for that fact. the most amazing part to me, however is how despite the insanely twisted layout, the laterals never passed .3 Gs.

Tengu goes a little bit over the limit, but of course in Nolimits there are no limits. And so you created an nice smooth but also an very adrenaline ride, with an looping, which I hate in woody's (so not woody). But it is an element that makes your ride more than an tall fast ride.

Already by the lifthill you make the difference, at some part of the hill you let the chain jump over to an faster chain, which can be technical quite give an problem. But After that nice boost and an nice high hill, you let the ride continue in an mountain where it is like the world goes upside down. The rest of the ride goes smooth and at some point it almost looks like you're going over the g-force limit. But luckely you stay under it and create another boost of adrenaline in your ride.

For your scenery, you expanded the station well to an selfmade station. Maybey you took to much space for the que and doesn't it feels like it is part of the coaster. But you can recognize the Chinees/Japanees theme of your ride. Well done!

T: Great smoothness and the banking is perfect all the time. A: High speed and great elements used here. O: A really huge ride, but still great smoothness, great theming and a really nice layout.

I liked it! Keep this great work up, mate ;)

T: Very smooth and flows very well. Banking is spot on and transitions are briliant.

A: Keeps it's speed and G's are good, but could be a bit more aggresive.

O: Very original, great theming and good layout. Like no other coaster but still feels like an Intamin. Loop is very original.

Overall a fantastic ride.

Ah, yes, a loop on a wooden coaster!

T:Very smooth and fast, definitely one of the better wooden coasters out there!

A: Let's just say that this would be pumping the adrenaline in anybody who rides this! Unless you're too scared to ride it!

O: Haven't seen anything quite like it. Nice theming!

I really enjoyed the ride from beginning to end. I like the transitions and I really enjoyed that massive first drop. The track was smooth, but I wasn't too fond of the loop for some reason. I feel it took away from the overall wood feel of the ride. I liked the braking effect coming onto that 2nd large drop...very smooth. The mountain did add a nice feel to the ride, because you see it from the distance of the 1st drop. I would enjoy riding a ride like this, and the G-Force didn't go so crazy as to kill someone. The banking turns were real nice as well.

T: Very smooth and open layout and the banking transitions seem perfect.

A: The coaster keeps its speed the entire ride and the G's are good in my opinion.

O: The theme is done very well and I think the mountain adds a nice touch. I really like how the loop comes outta nowhere.

I would love to ride this coaster!!

T: Ultra smooth throughout all the transitions and supports were very nicely done.

A: Very fast with quick transitions, just like a woodie should be like. Loop was a nice addition. Ride didnt seem to lose its momentum much and kept me entertained all the way through.

O: Theming and layout helped you out alot here. Nicely done. I think u have taken tried and tested designs and mashed them together here.

T: Very smooth, very realistic (for an Intamin woodie). The support job was pretty good, but it's the track that won me over on this.

A: The pacing was a little too fast (make your elements last longer), and the loop was a surprise to me. Besides that, it was great. There aren't a lot of bad things in the adrenaline section of this ride.

O: It looks like you mashed an Intamin woodie with the Son of Beast, which is about where the originality ends. But there isn't a lot you can do with wood coasters to make them very original, so you did well with what you made.

i liked this ride a lot. it was full of airtime, and had a nice fast steady pace throughout the whole ride. i really enjoyed the loop. it was built very nicely, very smooth, and had some origional elements to it. good job!!

T: Trackwork was pretty splendid. Only a few gripes:

  • Double lift hill? Is this necessary?
  • A few twitches before and after the loop.
  • Supports were a little lacking in some places.

A: I was expecting more for such a monstrous ride. The G's were a little boring sometimes, and the track would have been better if it had a tighter design as it felt too drawn out. Airtime for an Intamin Pre-fab was a little lacking too ... since the ride is very smooth, I would have liked to have seen -1.0 in the air department. Also, after the MCBR, it was only twists and turns with some hills, but nearly no air. Some headchoppers would have been nice.

O: The trackwork wasn't anything special, and the order the elements were executed was somewhat predictable. The Loop and theming earns you points here. I would have liked to have seen something other than the half-hill to turn which was prevalent in many instances of the ride.

Definitely one of the best Intawoodies I've seen. The glass-smooth track had great shaping and g-forces (with a couple areas that could've been shaped better) and really make the tech high. The only shortcoming of the tech that brought down your score was the supporting, as it could've been improved in several spots, especially a bit more support on the loop, but that's just my own opinion.

The pacing was excellent, as well as the ejector. This area personally really lived up to its potential and didn't meander at any point as it does on Balder and T-Express post-mcbr. The theming really made the ride more exciting personally in my opinion.

This ride definitely is original for an Intawoodie as it has a layout that's not El Toro-esque or Balder-esque or the both combined to make it T-Express-esque; it's a ride on its own. The loop boosted on the originality and the theming boost helps out.

Keep it up!

Wow. That was...insane. Probably my favorite NL woodie of all time!

T: Incredibly smooth trackwork; I didn't notice a single pump throughout the entire ride (and considering that it's over 7000ft. long, that is amazing). The supports were good, and the forces were perfect. Minimum stacking was good, too.

A: Excellent pacing, excellent layout, and excellent airtime. I loved every minute of this incredibly fun, thrilling machine.

O: Perfect. Just...perfect. I've never seen anything quite like this. Very unpredictable layout, intense airtime on many hills, incredible size, and great incorporation of the vertical loop. I was expecting to be underwhelmed after seeing that awesome screenshot, but my reaction turned out to be just the opposite. The theming made the ride even better. Amazing work!

T: Very good supports and 3ds with the loop and tunnel. I didn`t expect the loop to be that realistic.

A: This ride kept getting better with the headchoppers and loop. I don`t know what could top this.

O: I think you got the loop idea from Son Of Beast. But otherwise good job.

Perfect structure, perfect speed, perfect ride. I found no bumbs, jerks, or anything that equals the roller coaster to be a big bully. Though it was kinda weird about what you did about the chain lift; goes up slow but reaches the top and speeds up?

T: Good, good transitions and elements flowed reasonably between each other with just a couple of weird transitions. Pretty minor stuff here.

A: Fantastic! Great pacing, consistently fast with fantastic elements and lots of powerful forces.

O: It's not really all that original, it uses tried and true elements and formations so a middle of the road score here felt appropriate. Nothing really groundbreaking about the design.

Great creation, I wonder how you would have done the 3DS alone.

BT : I found the trackwork to be perfect, still thought the looping could have been supported using more wooden beams. Some points went lost because there is no such thing as a perfectly flat landscape, this was emphasised by the 3DS mountain which should follow the ground underneath the tunnel to see the concrete footers and not burrying some trees.

AD : Usually I am counting some points for a surprise factor, the fast pacing let alone is reflected in this score.

OR : The originality lies within such an extended footprint, by the nature of a wooden coaster I have the principle to start rating at 9 as they have less scope compared to some other styles of coasters to be 100% original. Once again the flat land had an adverse effect in this category.

Wooow! The terraforming is great! I really enjoyd the turns and baknigs of this coaster! The lay out was SWEET!!! This coaster is a bit unrealistic i think (not because of the loop i heavily believe that that element can be put in a woodie)

Technically speaking, this ride does have a few flaws, G's a little high for a woodie, but alot of support look appears to have been done above and beyond the auto supports. Adrenaline wise, OMG, this ride gets you from the get go, over the amazing hills, into the ever-so-cool mid ride surprise, to the in-and-outs, with headchoppers and airtime galore. I think my score in originality speaks for itself. This is a one of a kind unique creation, destined to be one of my favorite NL coasters of all time. Keep up the good work!

Excellent Woodie here... not much to complain about really... It was well build, some pumps were felt but then again its a wooden coaster so it's part of the ride I guess.. The speed never let down on this one causing the best adrenaline rush. Original? no not really but it was one of the best version i've seen up to date... cool one!!

BT: clearly well built, good G's, probably tool'ed but i couldn't tell. the track was smooth and intresting, but i would have liked to see some more intresting track.

AD: very well paced, never ever ever seemed to slow down. the final could be a bit tighter, some high g before the end.

OR: not bad, but i think it ended too fast. otherwise, very fun

Can I go on that again?!?! Excellent track work. It' s a ride that keep on giving right up till the very end. I could feel the adrenaline and G's in my seat... I love how the hills were implemented how there was never the same thing twice. Dipping through the structure was very thrilling. Track work was very smooth. There was a couple spots of hitting -1 G's riding in the back. Which I marked you down a little for it.

I really liked the scenery, the mountain, and additions. I felt this added a nice touch to the ride. It seems to really stand out in originality in my mind.

To make this ride better. The only thing I can see are the supports for some of the high G (3.0G corners). The high banked fast corners could use more lateral support.

Original rating from CS.

TRACKWORK:

I personally think that this is where the track really showed its best qualities. It was smooth for a wooden coaster and most of the elements were shaped right for this type of coaster. There was a bit of pumping in the second half but it was very minor. I’m not sure if I agree with the three bench cars, maybe two would have been better. That first drop was very nice but the G’s got a bit high at the bottom reaching around 4. Other than this, the rest of the G’s in the ride seemed alright and survivable. I really liked how large the ride was. It was just... massive. I enjoyed the layout but the loop was the only thing that I didn’t like. I once experimented with the concept, but I’ve grown to not like it. The ride was really long, yet never lost its intensity and complexity. You mixed a bit of different styles in this.

SUPPORTS:

Considering that most of the supports on this beast were auto generated, the things you did do were nicely done. On a coaster this tall and fast, many of the turns needed better lateral bracing, the steep drops could’ve been supported a bit more. I know it would take too long to support by hand but you should’ve added supports in places that the auto-supporter misses. It would’ve been nice to see the supports on the loop a bit thicker. It seemed to be a bit under-supported but pretty much fine.

THEMING:

This was a very hard coaster to try to theme, but you succeeded. I really love the Oriental type 3ds in this ride and how everything played its part in the coaster. The station was really nice but some of the other 3ds seemed decently good. The building in the middle of nowhere without a path connecting it to anything was a bit weird but that doesn’t hurt you at all. I think that the mountain was an original idea but it could’ve been executed a bit better if you would’ve used some different texture. It also seemed that it was really randomly placed. The rest of the ride is completely flat and then you get to a giant mountain.

Overall, this was nicely made and is definitely a good job by the three of you.

T: I would give this a 9 but I don't believe a 6-seater should be heartlined mainly because some of the elements in your ride would twist the frame of a PTC 6 seat car a bit too far. Otherwise the ride was perfect in this category.

A: This I knocked you down on a lot for the MCBR. As a ride operator who has had to host guests stuck in the middle of the ride a hundred feet in the air I can tell you that nobody likes it. And that is exactly what would happen if the station and the final brakes were occupied and because that would be a block stop in reality that would cause the computer to cut power to the ride, and this happens all the time. The reason this isnt a technical problem in my books is that it causes the ride to lose momentum in the middle of the ride which has so much energy to it. Everywhere else the power of the ride is exhilarating.

O: not much to say here except great job. it was a little bit like a steel mega coaster. The loop was a nice touch, but I think we can all agree that its not necessarily practical after what happened with Son of Beast.

Overall great job you guys, keep it up.

Hey!I´ve been sitting more then two hours in front of the ride now, and I have to ride it again again. It´s so unbelievebal huge and fast. I think this is one of the best woodies I´ve ever ridden in No Limits. The first drop is amazing, I think it´s a cool idee too let the train get faster at the end of the lift for a fast First Drop. The airtime in the last row is huge, overall after the first drop and the break. One more great thing is the train, I love long trains because you have so different accelerations in the different rows. But what too say else, I think the one´s in front of me sayed everything important, and I would just count all the great things of this ride so it will be enough too say: amazing ride!

Fun ride. Very, very fast. I felt that some portions of ride wouldn't exactly word realistically, see how fast the train was going at some parts. It seemed like a fantasy coaster: fun to ride but when put into reality, wouldn't work. Well done overall!

T: Way ta go guys! This thing was HUGE and AWESOME! Supports, even though they're wood magic, are acceptable, since the sheer size of this ride would take too long to do properly within the given time frame. Trackwork was excellent, although there were some sections I didn't like such as the loop right next to the hill. I thought it would have looked better being isolated, such as on Son Of Beast.

A: Awesome again. Althought after a bit, it felt repetitive, like turn, hill, turn, hill, ect. ect. But the sheer size of this ride is a heart stopper. Plenty of hairtime for everyone. The loop isn't something often found on a good solid NL woodie, and this one was executed very well.

O: A sweet layout combined with awesome ammounts of airtime, and then a loop? That definately screams originality in my books. I can't find anything that wouldn't be easily original in this layout.

Totally mad. This coaster is on steroids.

T - Brilliant trackwork, no pumping at all that I could detect and so smooooth. Custom supports made for great headchoppers. It also looks like you have done quite a bit of auto support cleanup. G's kept in check.

A - This baby doesn't let up from the first drop until the final break run. Loads of serious airtime which I love in a woodie, I swear I could really feel my bum lifting off the seat. The loop is great, especially it's placement.

O - Great 3D theming is the final element that makes this ride a complete package.

Kevin, welcome aboard. An excellent first upload! Half an hour after riding, I was hungry and had to ride it again!

T - Other than a few places slightly rough transitions and a few places where 3.5Gs may be too high for a woodie, this was excellent. Glassman smooth! Beautiful to look at, great to ride.

A - its full of suprises! Incredible first drop. Best part for me was the drop off the MBC, reminded me of a giant version of the drop out of Hades station. The last section of multiple banked turns did get slightly repetitive, but at those speeds, it was still great.

O - Brilliant 3Ds, nice suprise in the middle, unpredictable layout.
